Hello and thank you for visiting Devil's Backbone Park! Our lovely park is located right on the scenic banks of the mighty Mississippi River near the small town of Grand Tower, IL. Devil's Backbone hosts a wide variety of recreationsl activities, events, and is the perfect place to go for a peaceful getaway!!!
Some highlights include:
RV camping- We have 119 electric and water hookup sites, and recently installed 16 (soon to be more!) sites with FULL hookups (Water, Electric, Sewer). There is a wide variety of sites to choose from, as many are right on the river bank, many are very well shaded, some are more secluded......whatever your preference, you will find a great site!
Large shelters are available by reservation - Ideal for reunions, fish fries, or any good old get-together, these shelters have electricity, are cleaned, and are supplied with multiple grills, refuse cans, picnic tables, etc.
Primitive Camping- There is ample space for tent camping, located at the north and south ends of the park
Multiple Playgrounds- Located in the center and south areas of the park, (There has recently been a playground for small children established in the center) you will have a much easier time keeping an eye on you children (or grandbabies!) at play.
Hiking, Bicycling- Devil's Backbone Park sits upon the River to River Trail, as well as the Lewis and Clark Expedition Trail. There are hiking trails into the Backbone, and there are many places to ride your bikes.
Fishing- The Mississippi River is home to a host of fish, and there is a very good boat launch just south of the park.
The park also has a basketball court, batting cage, shuffleboard pads, and a lot of open space for frisbee or your sports of choice! (You may have to supply your own equipment though!)
Campfires are permitted, and firewood can be acquired on site. The park also supplies fire rings and picnic tables as requsted.
Your friendly pets are more than welcome!
